Start Plants Indoors DIY

If you’re planning to enter the agriculture contests at your local county fair like we are, then you’ll want to get a jump start on your planting season! It’s extremely simple and costs nothing to start your plants inside then transfer them to your garden. Just follow these easy steps:

1. Gather empty egg cartons.

2. Fill with dirt from your garden.

3. Add seeds (1 per egg spot) and water thoroughly.

4. Place in a full sun window with a tray to protect your windowsill.

5. You’ll want to remove the lid and can use it to keep track of which seeds are which by writing a map on it.

Once you are ready to transfer and the temperatures warm outside, make sure you let your indoor garden starts sit outside to adapt. Keep them in their trays for about 1 week. Once they’ve adapted to the colder outdoor temps you can cut the carton apart and plant each seed in the ground with its carton. The egg carton will disintegrate into the dirt. We prefer to cut the bottom off to allow the roots to come through faster.

If you’re trying to grow the biggest pumpkin like us, give these “biggest pumpkin in the world” seeds a shot! Biggest Pumpkin Seeds. The Atlantic Giant is the biggest breed and is sure to be a showstopper at the county pumpkin growing contest this year. Good luck farmers!
